Kings XI Punjab 2014 full team and its Best!

In the last 6 editions of IPL if there has been one team who has never been favorites its Kings 11 Punjab. They have been the dark horses ,generally a good combination of youngsters and some heavyweight superstars but they have always lacked the X factor. Back in 2008 ,they were led by probably the best t20 player of that time, a certain Yuvraj Singh. They performed decently reaching the semifinals , and that has been there best result till date. Since then the boys from Punjab has never lived up to their potential much to the disappointment of their several fans worldwide.

So what has changed this time? First and foremost the kings 11 owners came out all guns blazing in the auction this time around. Going after the most decorated t20 players in world cricket today, their batting unit is second to none in this years IPL. With the retirement of Adam Gilchrist  in the last edition ,they needed a new leader .And who better than George Bailey could have fit in the scheme of things. The Australian t20 skipper is one of the finest in this format and has been leading the Australian team for quite some time now. Bailey has now been officially declared as the skipper for this season.

Kings_XI_Punjab _Captain_2014

Extremely determined to strengthen their batting this time around ,they splashed the cash for some real quality players. Glenn Maxwell was bought for Rs.60million and Virender Sehwag for Rs.32 million. Maxwell was an important part of the Mumbai Indians last season who went on to win both the IPL and Clt20 last season. People following the game closely know very well that he is capable of destroying any bowling line up on his day.Sehwag fills in the opening slot and with the Nawab of Najafgarh having a lot to prove ,will be really fired up for this challenge. As far the impact he can make is concerned, no cricket follower needs an introduction regarding that. Manan vohra and David the “Killer ” Miller as he is fondly called  are the only two players who have been retained from last years squad. Miller has made big name for himself in the last edition and Manan Vohra was one of their brightest spots. Shaun Marsh and Cheteshwar pujara would give further stability to the team. Mandeep Singh and Gurkeerat Singh are the domestic players who so often happen to make the difference in the team.

But as far the bowling is concerned, Punjab doesn’t seem to be the strongest in this aspect. The only real cutting edge in the team is Mitchell Johnson who has been terrific form off late .he is probably among the best seamers in world cricket alongside Dale Steyn. Apart from him, there are the likes of Laxmipathy Balaji,Parwinder Awana and murali karthik who do not form a bowling lineup who an opposition would fear. But with tones of domestic and international experience behind them, they might be able to surprise a few people in this tournament. Beraun Hendricks is the other overseas fast bowler and Karan Singh who impressed many in the last season representing Sunrisers Hyderabad will strengthen the spin department.

Coming to the all-rounders , Thisara perera is the only name in the squad who can genuinely be called an all-rounder and is capable of turning a game on its head with his medium pace and his explosive lower order batting. Rishi Dhawan performed decently for Mumbai last season and has performed brilliantly in the domestic circuit throughout the season. He may well be called upon for his services more often than expected. Wriddhiman Saha is the only wicket keeper in the squad, who will come in quite handy with the bat.

Overall the Kings 11 Punjab looks an extremely promising side with a team full of match winners and they may well turn out to be serious contenders if they jell together as a unit.So make some noise for the punjabiiiii boyzzzz.View Kings XI Punjab full team 2014

KXI Punjab Strengths: Explosive batsmen and genuine match winners. A strong leader in the form of George Bailey.

KXI Punjab weekness : Too many international players. As only 4 of them can participate in every match ,it will be a challenge to find the right combination. Lack of firepower in Bowling.

Supreme Court proposes removal of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals

Alleging spot-fixing controversy, Supreme court on thursday suggested the removal of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals from Indian Premier league, season 7.  After spot-fixing and cricket betting scandals surfaced in 2013 , BCCI has set up Mudgal committee to inquire into allegations and to recommend changes in the existing format to avoid such incidents in future. Yesterday, Supreme court of India heard the Justice Mudgal committee's over 100-page report and proposed the following:

The two teams CSK and the Rajasthan Royals who are being probed for illegal betting and match-fixing should be barred from the next edition of the IPL beginning April 16.

"We are not removing anyone now, but Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will not be allowed to participate in the IPL which commences on April 16," added Patnaik, who is head of the two-judge panel.

Rajasthan Royals is facing heat because of its three players S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan. All three have been proved guilty by delhi police for involving in spot-fixing, revealing confidential team internal data.Sreesanth and Chavan are already facing lifetime ban from cricket where as Ajit Chandila is under scrutiny. Read more about Ajit Chandila

Considering Meiyappan, BCCI's president Srinivasan's alleged role in cricket scandal the report had said "The committee is of the view that the material on record clearly indicates that Meiyappan was the face of CSK and the team official of CSK"

In the place of Srinivasan, we propose to appoint an experienced cricket player like Sunil Gavaskar to replace him and function as BCCI president," justice AK Patnaik said

In the final hearing which began in tuesday, Supreme court lashed out at Srinivasan saying "Why is Srinivasan not stepping down? It is so nauseating? Why is he sticking to the president's post?"

N Srinivasan remains intent even as the pressure on him increases with the Apex Court's observation.

For the acts of Meiyappan, CSK Team Principal, who is facing charges of involving in betting along with film star vindoo dara singh, CSK may face disciplinary action including ban as per the Franchise agreement and Anti Corruption code of IPL.

Commercially IPL may suffer badly if the two teams are banned from participating in this year's edition. Consultancy firm KPMG, if thetwo teams are banned, the total loss of business could amount to Rs 9,000 crore.

BCCI and ICC together will fight IPL betting and corruption for next three years

BCCI and ICC together are planning to develope anti-corruption mechanisms to curb corruption in Indian Premier League. Both cricket agensies may sign a deal which will address corruption issues for three years from IPL 2014 to IPL 2016. Spot-fixing and corruption during 2013 has resulted in arrest of prominent cricket players and have damaged the integrity and reputation of the popular cricket league.

ICC has ACSU( Anti Corruption and Security Unit) which was set up in 2000, to take up issues related to corruption, betting and scandal. It's main objectives are investigation, education and prevention. BCCI too had an Anti Corruption unit set up in 2012  but it failed to prevent players from ivolving in spot-fixing during IPL2013. Now, BCCI is in discussions with ICC's ACSU to set up anti-corruption mechanism specific to IPL format. The BCCI unit headed by Ravi Sawani will co-ordinate with the ICC's ACSU chief YP Singh and his team.

"Our office is in Dubai, so we have certain facilities which we will make available to the BCCI if they need them. Essentially though, our involvement would be on the anti-corruption side," ICC chief executive Dave Richardson in Dhaka on Friday. "As we speak, I think the contract between the BCCI and the ICC ACSU is under negotiation. So it is a little bit premature to say if our services are actually going to be used but that's probably very likely."

Assuring corruption free cricket, Richardson said. "And the other point we wanted to make from the media release was that rightly or wrongly, the region sometimes gets accused of having integrity issues. And we wanted to assure everybody in that respect certainly, we are keeping a very close eye on the tournament and making sure that it remains above board."

George Bailey is the captain of Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2014

George Bailey has been selected unanimously as the captain of Kings XI punjab for IPL 2014.  Bailey till 2012 played for Chennai super kings. After Gilchrist, Bailey is the second Australian to be Kings XI Punjab's captain. His price tag was INR 3.25 crore in IPL 2014 auction. He is already the captain of current Australia's T20 team. He has a good track record of captainship in T20s with 13 victories and a strike rate of 146.95. He is known for good tempered middle ordered batsman.check out full team of KINGS XI PUNJAB here

According to Sanjay Bangar, Kings XI Coach, "He was the unanimous choice. He has got success as a leader in the domestic tournaments like Sheffield Shield in Australia. He had also lead Australia in the Twenty20 format. And then the overall type of character he is, who can understand a range of players from the bigger names to ones that have limited ability. We are confident he has the ability to bring out the best from everyone."

"We required a player with past leadership experience. The second and crucial aspect was to have a player who was guaranteed a place in the team for all matches," Bangar said, adding the other elements that were taken into account before picking Bailey as the captain.

Mentioning Virender Sehwag, former Delhi Daredevils captain, Bangar said  "Within that group we would definitely like to utilise the experience of senior guys like Viru, who are bound to perform the role of mentors. But on the field Bailey will be the captain."

This year, Kings Xi Punjab team has four Australians namely George Bailey, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell and Shaun Marsh.

Interesting fact bout Bailey, after Dave Gregory in 1877,  Bailey is  the only guy to be selected as Australia's captain in his first match.
